Renshi Mark and Sensei Anna Gorman founded Mountain Eagle Karate Academy (MEKA) in 2001 to share their love of karate and its benefits with others in the Albuquerque area. Both Mark and Anna started their martial arts journey at The University of New Mexico; Mark in 1983, and Anna in 1997. Mark ran the martial arts program at UNM from 1995 - 2001, opening MEKA later that year. Since then, the Gormans have trained thousands of students in New Mexico, many of whom started as young children and continue to train at MEKA into adulthood.

As members of the United States Karate Association Hall of Fame, Mark and Anna are respected and accomplished members of the national Karate community. Mark is a 7th-degree black belt, and Anna holds a 5th-degree black belt. Both have won numerous awards at local, state, national, and even world competitions. Anna has won the USKA National Championship 12 times - a record in the association - and the USKA World Championship seven times.

Mark and Anna Gorman are proud to operate a family-friendly dojo where students of all ages are encouraged to become the best they can be, not just in karate, but in all areas of their lives.

Mountain Eagle Karate Academy strives to provide a valuable, fun, and exciting martial arts experience for children and adults to become the best they can be. The MEKA motto is, "Fly like an eagle".
